monthly and annual rentals

Monthly rentals: rent of vehicles for a period of one consecutive month (thirty days) in which only twenty-two (22) rental days are charged at the corporate rate or at the rate assigned at the moment of the rental. Eight days are given for free.

Annual rentals: rent of vehicles at a lower cost and without guarantee deposit for a 365 day period. Use the same car during the whole period without the need of changing the unit. In addition, total insurance with $375 deductible is included in the rate, including road assistance.

rental requirements


  1. Valid Driving License from its country of origin, the renter and the driver(s) must present it in original. A driving license issued abroad is valid for 90 days in Costa Rica from the immigration entry stamp data on passport.
  2. Driver´s license must be printed in Roman alphabet. For Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Cyrillic, Hebrew, etc. driver licenses, it has to be complemented by an International driving license.
  3. Present your valid passport and driver´s license at time of pick up.
  4. Present your Credit Card (only MasterCard, VISA or American Express accepted) to cover the US$1,500 deposit of guarantee required for renting a car. No cash deposit is allowed.
  5. Minimum rental age is 23 years old, maximum age to rent a caris 75 years old.

  1. Even if our online reservation system will confirm your booking, to guarantee it, a credit card is required. Our staff will contact you over the phone or by e-mail, right after you made the reservation in order to obtain your information and assist you with any other question you may have about your rental.   2. A reservation will be cancelled after 24 hours without credit card information.

At the rental


  1. Rental period is 24 hours.
  2. After 4 hours of late car return, you will be charged with the daily rate.
  3. Cars can not be taken out of Costa Rica.
  4. Additional drivers are allowed
  5. Debit cards and cash are not accepted for the deposit. Only credit card.
  6. Adobe Rent a Car offers meet and greet service at the airport when exact flight details are provided. Renter will be received at external arrival gates by an Adobe Rent a Car representative.
  7. When flight details are not provided, the customer may call upon arrival for free shuttle service available in San Jose Airport and in Liberia airport at the local number: 2542-4800 (San José) and 2667-0608 (Liberia) at office hours. When closed, please call emergency 24/7 number: 2542-4888.

Request, Modify, Cancellation, No Show or Early Return Bookings

Request of booking

A booking request can be done at any time, the minimum information provided to get an effective response must show:

  • Passenger Name (Name and Surname)
  • Car Type and Category requested
  • Date, hour and place of delivery (Hotel or Flight Number)
  • Date, hour and place of collection (Hotel or Flight Number)
  • Services to include, such as: Insurances, Protection Plan, Accessories, Drop Off Fees or One Way Rentals, etc.

Modifying bookings

A booking can be modified up to 72 hours before commencing the rental (upon availability) with no penalty, changes about pick up location may carry extra fees. Any payment already made towards the rental will not be refunded; nor shall any differential amount be refunded if this alteration leads to a lesser rental cost.

Cancellation

A booking can be cancelled before the rental begins. In the event of cancellation, the payment in advance already made towards the rental shall be paid back subject to a cancellation charge, if applies. Cancellations can be made throughout the channel the car was booked or directly to the Car Rental Reservations Department (reservas1@adobecar.com or reservas2@adobecar.com) at least 72 hours prior commencing the rental.

No-Show

In the event that the booked vehicle is not collected or not collected at the agreed time the rental charge already paid shall be withheld in full or a penalty of 1 day rental will be applied.

Early Return

In the event that the booked vehicle is returned earlier than the agreed time, the rental charge already paid shall be withheld in full.

Conditions of Payment

Partial Payment Tariff

Major international credit cards, i.e. American Express, MasterCard and Visa are only accepted.

Prepaid cards or debit cards (Visa Electron) are not accepted.

Cash Payment is not accepted.

Notice: A credit card for guarantee purposes MUST be presented on collection of the vehicle.

The renter must pay the remaining amount to balance the rental tariff with his credit card.

Major international credit cards, i.e. American Express, MasterCard and Visa are only accepted.

Prepaid cards or debit cards (Visa Electron) are not accepted.

Cash Payment is not accepted.

Notice: A credit card for guarantee purposes MUST be presented on collection of the vehicle.

Prepaid in advance: The renter must present and deliver proof of prepaid (Voucher, Gutschein, Bono de servicio, Cupom, Coupon, etc.). The authorized driver details and method of payment will be confirmed at reservation stage and cannot be amended.All extra costs that occur during the car rental will be charged to this credit card.

Prepaid on collection: if renter books a prepaid on collection rate, the credit card will be charged before the start of rental, directly with the estimated total amount of rental.The amount that will be charged on your credit card comprises the price of rental as well as all additional extra fees.

General Insurance and Coverage Conditions

Third Party Mandatory Liability

Limited Third Party Mandatory Liability is included in the rate.

Insurance coverage for the vehicle rented includes Third Party Liability with a maximum cover of US$100,000 per event for personal injuries and US$20.000 per material damages.

The customer has a benefit of zero deductible for material damages up to US$20.000; the renter must cover the excess.

Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)

LDW is included in the rate if the tariff is an Inclusive Rate; if the rate is Exclusive Rate the LDW must be paid locally in Costa Rica.

Loss Damage Waiver removes the drivers responsibility to a part of the vehicle in case of loss, collision, damage, roll over or theft; with a deductible of US$1,000 - US$1500.

LDW is mandatory in Costa Rica.

Supplemental Protection Plan (SPP)

If a customer decides to purchase, the Supplemental Protection Plan (SPP); he eliminates the excess (deductible) of LDW, also includes car rescue, coverage for glasses, tires, vandalism and increases the coverage for third party material damages and injuries to US$5.000.000.

The cost of SPP is US$17 per day.

PLI / Primary Liability Insurance

It's a basic liability insurance. Can be declined if the client takes the LDW, or if the client presents a valid liability insurance for his rental in Costa Rica.

Purchase is mandatory when the rate does not include liability coverage, unless proof of coverage is presented. Has a limited coverage and deductibles may apply. Client can increase liability coverage with the purchase of additional coverage named SPP.

Exclusions of Coverage

Is excluded and void from the insurance, protection plan and its coverage:

  • When the driver has any incident and is under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • When the vehicle suffers damages and the driver is not authorized/inscribed in the rental contract.
  • Damages of any type caused by driving thru rivers, lakes, beaches, mangroves, flooded roads or off-road (i.e. where do not exist an official road, example: Cross-country).
  • Fail in the obligation to provide to the Car Rental Company the accident report given by the Dirección General de Tránsito and the accident report with the Instituto Nacional de Seguros in Costa Rica.
  • Fail to report the accident to the Car Rental Company immediately after the event takes place.
  • Violations of the Costa Rica Traffic Legislation are full responsibility of the client.
Delivery & Collection

During Opening Hours

Delivery/Collection Service is free of charge in the same Car Rental Company office. If Delivery location is different to the Collection location an extra fee must apply, no matter of the length of the rental. Please contact the Car Rental Reservations Department to know the fees.

Delivery or Collection Service in hotels nearby the Car Rental Company offices (ratio of 15 Km around the offices) is available; it is on request and has no extra fee. Please contact the Car Rental Reservations Department or the local rental station.

Out of Opening Hours

Delivery Service is on request at Airport facilities. For Delivery after hours the full information of the Arrival Flight must be provided in advance. Please contact the Car Rental Reservations Department. Collection of cars must be done during opening hours.

Notice: All our services in SJO or LIR airports are Meet and Greet, with free shuttle service in/out to the International Terminal.

One-Way Rentals

Within Costa Rica

All One-Way Rentals are upon request and fees may apply.

The minimum rental period is 3 days, if the rental is required between Adobe Rent a Car locations.

A full chart with detailed fees is provided in the agreement of services; if you need further information, please contact the Car Rental Reservations Department.

Notice: international one-way rentals are not allowed. The cross-border option is not allowed.

Rental Periods

Rental period is based on 24 hours of continued use.

A 1-hour tolerance for late returns is granted, later hours carry out extra fees; after 4 hours delay a full day is charged.

Fuel Charge

All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel (please check if the car uses petrol-gasoline or diesel fuel), please returned as it was delivered. Refueling charges will apply.

Extra fees or penalties

Loss/Steal of Car License Plates has a replacement penalty from US$100.

Loss/Steal/Damage of Car Mandatory Documents has a replacement penalty from US$100.

Loss/Steal of Regular Car keys has a replacement penalty from US$150; if the Car Key Holder is electronic or customized to the car rented a replacement penalty from US$300 applies.

Coverage

Adobe Rent a Car offers you the most complete insurance plan, for a better experience in Costa Rica:

  1. The rate includes basic liability insurance with a maximum protection of US$20.000 for damages to third parties´ property, and US$100.000 per accident, for injury or death of third persons not travelling in the rental car. No deductible.
  2. LDW / Loss damage waiver: For an additional daily fee, the renter can waive his financial responsibility in case of damages to the rental car, produced by a car accident, collision or roll over. It also protects the financial losses in case of a total or partial theft of the automobile. The LDW has a deductible (excess) of US$1,000 - US$1,500. The cost of the LDW varies with the car category and goes from US$14 per day to US$25per day. The LDW is not an insurance. It is mandatory.
  3. SPP / Supplemental Protection Plan: The SPP allows the renter to waive the deductible (excess) of the LDW for a daily extra cost. It also covers the cases of vandalism, destroyed tires or broken crystals, as well as free 24 hours specialized road assistance, including towing in case of an accident (restrictions apply). In the liability area, it extends the limit of the coverage up to US$5.000.000 per event, and it covers moral damages and profit loss.
  4. PLI / Primary Liability Insurance: It's a basic liability insurance. Can be declined if the client takes the LDW, or if the client presents a valid liability insurance for his rental in Costa Rica.
